Simona Soverini is Associate Professor of Hematology at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the University of Bologna and head of the Myeloid Leukemia Research group at the Institute of Hematology “Lorenzo e Ariosto Seragnoli” at the S. Orsola University Hospital in Bologna, Italy. She obtained her MSc in Molecular Biology and her PhD in Clinical and Experimental Haematology from the University of Bologna. Her research focuses on chronic myeloid leukemia and systemic mastocytosis. Professor Soverini is author of nearly 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with a h-index of 58. She is a reviewer for a number of international journals, including Blood, Leukemia, Haematologica, Clinical Cancer Research and British Journal of Haematology, and sits in the Editorial Boards of Journal of Hematology & Oncology, Frontiers in Oncology and International Journal of Molecular Sciences. She is member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Experimental Hematology (SIES), of the Scientific-Technical Committee of the Italian Society of Hematology (SIE), of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Mastocytosis Network (RIMA), of the Educational Committee of the Society of Hematological Oncology (SOHO), of the Advisory Committee of the Annual ESH John Goldman Conference on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: Biology and Therapy. She has also served on the Scientific Program Committees for EHA and is a member of the European Hematology Association (EHA) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH). She is a member of the ELN Expert Panel in charge to compile the ELN recommendations for the treatment of CML (2013; 2016; 2020; 2025) and together with Professor Nick Cross has coordinated the Expert Panel that published in 2023 the ELN Laboratory Recommendations for the diagnosis and management of CML. At the national levels, she has been appointed by SIES as panel coordinator for the development of the guidelines for advanced diagnostics of CML and panel member for the development of the guidelines for advanced diagnostics of Philadelphia- negative MPNs, both for the Italian Ministry of Health.
