Dr. Valcárcel is a renowned specialist in Hematology. He has more than 15 years of experience in the profession and extensive training in different fields of the specialty. Specifically, he is a great expert in blood and marrow transplantation , as well as stem cells, and the approach to other blood oncological diseases, such as Leukemia .

Throughout his career he has combined his healthcare work with important research and dissemination activity, being the author of more than a hundred scientific articles in the specialty and a frequent speaker at conferences. Currently, Dr. Varcálcel is head of intensive hematology and the cell therapy unit at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, in addition to practicing as a hematologist at the IOB Institute of Oncology.
