Pierre Fenaux trained at the University Hospital of Lille, France, where he became a Professor in Hematology in 1993. He became head of the Hematology Department of Hospital Avicenne (belonging to Assistance Publique–Hospital of Paris Hospital network) in 2002 and Professor in Hematology at Paris 13 University from 2002 to 2013. In September 2013, he moved to the Hospital St Louis and Paris 7 University to open a new section on myeloid malignancies in elderly patients. He is also part of Inserm research unit number 1131, at Hospital St Louis, Paris, for his laboratory research activity.
Fenaux is involved in clinical and laboratory research in the field of myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia (especially promyelocytic leukemia). He is a founding member and chairman of the French-speaking myelodysplastic syndromes group and of the French promyelocytic leukemia group. In addition to the coordination of clinical trials, Fenaux’s laboratory research is presently focused on the analysis of drug mechanism of action in myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia, on development of murine models of these diseases, and on mechanisms of resistance to treatment in promyelocytic leukemia.
