Speaker Bio
Dr. Krina K. Patel is the Section Chief of Multiple Myeloma, an Associate Professor in the Department of
Lymphoma & Myeloma, and the Director of Myeloma Clinical Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Division of Cancer Medicine. She previously served in the Department of Stem Cell Transplantation at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Patel earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She completed her fellowship in hematology-oncology at MD Anderson, where she served as Chief Fellow for two years and obtained her Master of Science under the mentorship of Laurence Cooper, MD, PhD, evaluating the combination of the NY-ESO-1 T-APC vaccine with TCR in multiple myeloma cell line and mouse models. She currently serves as the Service Line Leader for her department.

Dr. Patel’s research focuses on advancing therapies and improving outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and other plasma cell dyscrasias. Her specific interests include enhancing survival and quality of life for patients with MM, POEMS syndrome, and plasmablastic lymphoma through the use of cellular therapies—such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell treatments—with or without transplant. She also investigates combinations of immunotherapies across induction, transplant, maintenance, and salvage settings.

Dr. Patel has served as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials in MM, with a strong emphasis on
immunotherapeutic approaches, including novel CAR T therapies, monoclonal antibodies, cytokine-based
treatments, and vaccine studies. She is currently co-principal investigator on a translational study evaluating ctDNA and scRNAseq data in patients receiving standard-of-care CAR T therapy.

In addition to her clinical and translational research, Dr. Patel is committed to improving access to cutting-edge therapies for vulnerable patient populations, including minority groups and individuals with high-risk disease.

Dr. Patel is an active member of ASH, ASCO, ASGCT, AACR, and ASTCT, and her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
