Laura Michaelis, MD, is the Armand J. Quick Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is a clinical educator and researcher specializing in Acute and Chronic Leukemias and Myeloproliferative Neoplasms.
Dr. Michaelis graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2000. Interestingly, she entered medical school after a decade-long career as a newspaper and magazine reporter, covering government and politics in Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington DC.
After obtaining her medical degree, Dr. Michaelis completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago. Her initial position was at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where she worked as a general hematologist and the Fellowship Program Director.
In 2014, she moved to MCW. Since then, she has narrowed her clinical and research focus to malignant myeloid disorders. She co-leads the current NCI Myelomatch clinical trial portfolio for older patients with AML, she serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Blood, she is an editor for Wintrobe's Textbook of Clinical Hematology and Up To Date.
