Prof. Dr. Dr. Torsten Haferlach is a hematologist and an expert in the field of leukemia diagnostics and therapy. His research leads to the development of new diagnostic possibilities and their translation into patient-relevant findings.
He received his doctorate in medicine and German studies. The habilitation already took place with the focus on leukemia diagnostics. He trained as an internist and hematologist at the university hospitals in Kiel and Göttingen and at the LMU University Hospital in Munich, where he was both senior physician in internal medicine and founder and director of the laboratory for leukemia diagnostics there. He is now active in teaching at TUM's RDI Hospital.
In 2005, he and three colleagues from complementary specialties established the MLL Munich Leukemia Laboratory (www.mll.com). Today, the laboratory processes more than 100,000 blood or bone marrow samples per year with a team of 210 employees, and more than 4,500 patients are treated in his practice (MHP). Since MLL's inception, more than 620 articles have been published in top-tier medical journals.
